When you are born in the "truth" it can be hard to find a direction to go in when you leave that part of your life behind. Harder when you are older, at least for me. It's nice you are still young, so hang in there!

Biblical incidents that bothered me.
by EverApostate ini wanted to discuss the (supposed) biblical events that disturbed me a lot when i was a jw.
these incidents were just read and discussed in the kingdom hall as if these are normal and justified, which clearly weren't.
perhaps this led to my awakening.

The man that went to retrieve his concubine and then saved himself by giving her over to be gang raped by the Benjaminites.
Then he was miffed that she died because of it. Such a loss of property! Then he cut her up and sent the pieces to the other tribes to show how much he was upset over it.
They showed their righteous indignation over it and killed most the Benjaminites. Oh yeah, their domestic animals too. Women don't get mentioned but they must have been killed too because the few remaining Benjaminites, didn't have any women to marry.
So because one group didn't swear not to give any of their daughters to the benjaminites, their unfortunate daughters were kidnapped by the leftover benjaminites who didn't mind gang raping women.

What would you do for next November 5?
by Faded ini think everything has to start somewhere, and you can see the passion and commitment from those loyal 50 that showed up in warwick yesterday.
the event was not very well organized but you could see the passion & dedication from most of them.
and i think they at least touched a couple of people at the kh yesterday.. having an annual day of action actually inspires me.

I think on this site I saw pictures posted of a protest done in New York. Maybe in the fifthties? In coats and sandwich boards. I never knew about it although I remember at the big assemblies years ago, big signs and banners from the "apostates"
Those in the sandwich boards must have felt like they may have been shouting down a hole. I mean, who would believe them? They hoped someone would. But they did what they could.
I'm the same as thebrokenkite in thinking that the protest could have been better. But then, I didn't fly to New York or protest. They did what they could. They did go around the area and leave pamphlets telling the neighbors of Warwick, what the Jw's were all about. That alone will help to keep others from falling into the trap. And my sister said, that it was therapy for most of them. That's a good thing right?
It sounds like thebrokenkite wants to volunteer for the job of organizing. Go for it!

JW leadership hypocrisy 1975
by Half banana init is felt that there is one law for the rich and another for the little people who are made to toe the line.
money equals power and it is a sad historical fact of humanity that where there is power there is abuse.. andersoninfo a few days ago produced the facts here that in 1975 the watchtower had spent nearly 2 million dollars to buy the neo baroque building in new york known as the towers.
when they sold it recently for 200 million dollars they made a profit of more than 10,000%.

I have been giving this subject some thought recently because of parents becoming old and possibly donating money to the WT.
Because my mother grew up poor, she is a penny pincher. I would like the buying of property in New York (more expensive than in other places) and the selling of the properties for millions - to get her thinking that they have more than enough money and don't need hers. But as Drearyweather said, they see it as a positive. I tried it on a "friend" and that was their response.
For me, a much more simple illustration in the here and now for my mom, showing the hypocrisy is - the poor little old sister who has very little in her fridge and is encouraged to drop everything she has in the contribution box. (picture and story in the Wt) And then say, "and yet, when you see the GB on the screen, most of them are obese. Are they missing any meals or going hungry? No they aren't. They are eating from what that starving poor sister put in."
That is the theme of the WT. I wish I could remember what study article it was or book, but some "leader" encouraged the bros and sisters to make sure they eat a sandwich while out peddling books. It was supposed to show how much they "loved and considered" the other sheep. But in reality, there was Beth Sarim. Millions of dollars in real estate and free labor - brothers and sisters tortured in mallawi and no help from the WT. Warwick - brothers and sisters keep your lives simple. The list goes on....

I love crows. They are cheeky and they know how to amuse themselves. One time camping, I heard a crow talking to himself. He rattled, purred and made a lot of interesting uncrow like sounds. Then a moment of silence. I swear he started laughing at his own joke. CAW CaaWW CAAAAwwww. Rats and Crows are very much alike in their ways. I love them both.

Living with non belivers
by Blade666 inmy question is can you as a jw live on same premises as a non jw.... in split house/property with no sexual relations or anything involved... i am being forced to move due to a "sister" wanting to go back to her god and has made the point of saying she cannot have a male around.
even though the property itself is split with seperate access for both parts of the house.. she has put a blanket rule out saying the whole property itself... doesnt make sense to me nor to any of the elders i have spoken to regarding the matter.. yes i called them as i know next to nothing about the faith.. .
i find it strange that two elders urge a non jw to seek justice from fair trading and rental tribunal as they themselves do not belive the actions of the "sister" in question or her family to be correct or right... .

Although I live in my own house, I am still affected by crazy neighbors that aren't JW's. To keep "the peace" I had to remove a small pile of dead grass, why? Because the crazy husband and wife convinced themselves that it was the cause of the "awful" smell that kept them from sitting on their porch. In reality, they had their garbage container there for a few days previously that reeked. But it couldn't be that, nooooooooo. The husband did things for revenge like running his compressor early or late at night before I found out the reason.
I threw the pile of grass into the garbage - it smelled like hay - and they magically could sit on their porch.
So crazy comes in all sizes and that is what that "sister" is. Lisarose has it right, ultra righteousness at play here.

California Tubbs Fire photos you might not find find anywhere else...
by La Capra into quote someone near and dear: they should have built the whole kingdom hall out of the same thing they built the signs.... i had to wait nearly two weeks to get into the neighborhood to get these pictures for your voyeuristic interests...this is peanuts compared to the over 5,000 homes that were destroyed (this number includes individual units in large apartment complexes that were completely razed).
those pictures and videos are available in the media.
wine country is a community devastated..

Most of those trees look like they've been scorched. If there wasn't a firestorm in that location but just a creeping fire, some of the trees might live.

Religion is just like Advertising!
by stuckinarut2 ina thought occurred to me today, that religion is just like a clever marketer or advertiser.
first , a "problem" is created, then the advertiser offers the "solution"!.
religion does the same!

And like advertisers, they provide beautiful conceptual art to entice you. See this beautiful bun, with fluffy lettuce encasing a juicy hamburger patty. When you get it and open the wrapper, it looks like someone sat on it.

For most of the video, there's a big almost 5' x 4' JW logo on the wall. If you listen closely (which unfortunately I did) one man says "our old space was "suitable" for a time but then they needed a bigger space that was adequate. (at least that is what I remember but I'm not going to listen again, it brings back those memories of convention talks)
So they just take your hand and lead you down the path of "of course we need this and Jehovah blessed us" But I think of how they call the Vactican an opulent waste of money and how poor people would benefit from the money spent on the furnishings etc.
Just makes me feel like they are going Wow! Look at all the expensive cool stuff we got because Videos are so in now and will really help people to know the Truth.
The real secret is - they are getting ready to replace the current GB with CGI. Then they won't have to worry anymore about roasted hot dog comments.
